AP-ON-STICK WIRELESS SURVEY

Unlike Predictive Site Surveys, onsite AP-on-Stick (APoS) Ekahau Wireless Site Surveys are performed in order to obtain the most accurate coverage depiction of a user's WiFi experience in the real world, as all surveying takes into account real-life obstructions and environmental conditions present at a clients site. This is especially critical for companies who may be planning to deploy mobility services including Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN), Cisco CMX/RTLS, and High-Density Deployments.

We also highly recommend Ekahau AP-on-Stick wireless site surveys when designing WiFi for challenging RF environments including warehouses, manufacturing, industrial etc.

Dynamic Wireless uses Ekahau Site Survey software coupled with Ekahau Sidekick (the First All-in-One Wi-Fi Site Diagnostics and Measurement Device) Sidekick to collect 'real-time and real-world' signal and performance measurements during our onsite AP-on-stick wireless surveys, allowing us to measure wireless network performance and RF coverage in the most realistic way possible to design the WiFi network for optimal access point count, placement and configuration.

We use the latest Cisco and Aruba 802.11a/g/n/ac WiFi access points (or any other vendor types as required by our clients) when performing our indoor wireless site surveys.

Our AP-on-Stick Wireless Site Surveys Can Be Used For The Following Scenarios:

Greenfield Survey:

  • Pre-installation physical Ekahau wireless site survey (for sites requiring a brand-new wireless deployment)

Coverage In-Filling:

  • After surveying your existing wireless coverage, we perform AP-on-Stick surveys for all proposed additional access points required in order to close any coverage holes for data, voice, RTLS or high-density wireless coverage. The results from the AP-on-Stick surveys are then merged with the existing coverage survey results, in order to prove all coverage holes have been filled and to provide you with a single coverage map with 100% coverage.

Example AP-on-Stick Wireless Survey Results

Use the interactive sliders below to display the various coverage metrics recorded by the Ekahau Sidekick, after the AP-on-Stick survey was completed for one access point location.

Signal Strength Heatmap

Signal Strength sometimes referred to as coverage, is the basic requirement for wireless network performance. Low signal levels contribute to unreliable connections and low data throughput. The higher the value (towards green), the stronger the signal strength in dBm.

Signal-to-Noise (SNR) Ratio Heatmap

SNR is the difference between the signal strength and the current noise level. The higher the value (towards green), the better the client adapter's ability to communicate with the Access Point. Low SNR (measured in dB) is also a factor contributing to low data throughput.
