AIRPORTS & RAIL

Based on Dynamic Wireless's experience, there are two major issues we commonly see within airport environments:

  • Not Enough Access Points:  Airports and airport lounges with an extremely low AP density, not adequate for such a high-density environment where business travellers rely on a quality service and high throughput. A common example we come across often are airport lounges with only 1-2 APs for 200-300 travellers, resulting in the wireless service grinding to a halt and becoming unusable. In today's world, travellers often connect multiple devices to an airport/lounge Wi-Fi network, such as their laptop, tablet, smart phone and smart watches. This has the effect of destroying brand image and wasting business travellers precious time, switching between Wi-Fi and their own 4G connections. Continuity of a quality wireless network is a must.

  • Too Many Access Points: Airports and airport lounges with an extremely high AP density, whereby no effort has gone into designing a high density design whereby APs are placed in optimal locations for reducing and confining coverage to specific areas, and where co-channel interference is kept to a minimum between APs. This requires specialised surveying techniques, taking into account access point placement and mounting, transmit power, percentage of duty cycle used, client radio type ratio, access point receive sensitivity, amongst other throughput considerations. Dynamic Wireless's high density wireless design services provide a unique methodology for designing wireless for high density environments, based on dozens of prior surveying and design experiences, and antenna selection expertise.

Our Airport and Rail Wireless Consulting Services Includes:

  • Design and surveying of high-density wireless designs for airport passenger terminals and lounges, train stations, depots and track-side.

  • Design and surveying of air-side operations and logistics centres - warehousing and baggage handling areas.

  • Outdoor wireless mesh coverage propagation prediction for airports - using Google Earth and land terrain data.

  • Ekahau Sidekick GPS-calibrated wireless surveying of airport existing outdoor wireless coverage - using Google Earth maps or up-to-date high-resolution aerial maps.

  • Design and path-profile analysis for PTP/PTM wireless bridge links between airport terminals.
